L. Reed Elam MA, LPC-S

I am a Christian Counselor because of the need I saw while I was in Pastoral Ministry. Life is hard, and at times hurtful. As believers we know God has the answers for us, but we don't always know how to apply them.I encountered people who had deep, complex issues in their life. They needed more in depth help than what my pastoral training had equipped me for. And so I pursued and earned my Master's degree in Pastoral Counseling.

Psychology is simply the study of the human mind and behavior. I believe the Bible is the original psychological textbook. As I earned my Master's Degree, I learned how to apply sound psychological principals with the solid truth of scripture.

It has been a great privilege in my life to serve God through counseling couples, individuals, families and young children by teaching them sound Biblical principles to live by. During the past 22 years as a professional counselor I have been able to:

  • Teach couples how to build a strong foundation through premarital counseling and create a marriage that will last.
  • Work with couples to overcome the struggles that can arise in marriage to help create an environment for a life that is enjoyed.
  • Walk beside individuals as they face depression, anxieties, PTSD, anger and the disappointments in life. Lead them through the steps to mental and emotional healing,
  • Help children at different stages and ages. Sometimes children are affected by difficulties and challenges that require professional help. As a father of 8 I have a passion to see children flourish and develop into emotional healthy individuals.

To me it is the truly brave who decide to work with a counselor as they face the various challenges of life.

I am an ordained minister, and a Licensed Professional Counselor. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible and Theology from Central Bible College, and my Master’s degree in Pastoral Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary. Through 30 years of pastoral ministry and counseling, I continue to build bridges between these two vital areas.

I coauthored “A Sacred Foundation” a book written to strengthen marriages. I have been the featured speaker at various retreats and conventions around the country. I am an Eagle Scout, as are 6 of our sons, and continue to be involved in the outdoors with my younger children. My wife, Janine, and I have been married over 30 years and have 8 children. We reside in the Dallas area.

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” –Galatians 6:9 (NLT)

In recognizing his responsibility to be a resource to the entire Christian community, Reed provides seminars covering a wide range of topics to a variety of groups. Marriage and family enrichment seminars are available to area churches. Pastors and church leaders can receive consultation.
